Get. iPhone. iDon’t.

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

I’m sitting here watching Gizmodo’s live stream of the fools lined up for iPhone tomorrow/today and I don’t get it.

I’m not a cell phone guy, but the iPhone has some pretty sweet tech behind it. But not at that price!

Like the RAZR we bought Anita last month, the price will come down and it’ll be refined in v2.0. I just don’t get this desire to have the “first” one.

The reviews so far have been mostly positive but so where the first ones for the 1st generation nano, and there were all sorts of problems with cracking screens and and scratched surfaces. (I don’t care what anyone says, if Steve Jobs pulls one out of his pocket on stage that’s a clear indication that the iPod was meant to be in a pocket!)

The Jesus Phone will be good, but I don’t think it’ll completely live up to the hype. Not that anyone will be willing to admit to it.

But like a lot of Apple products I find myself constantly waiting before buying… Macbooks? Next version will have more stuff built in, or the next version of OSX, or will be cheaper or God knows what. New iPods are always just around the corner… but will they just be size bumps or actual improvements?

Anita has a mini for jogging and then when the nano came out, mini accessories just disappeared. I’m always afraid of Apple just leaving people out high and dry. I’ve been thinking about getting Anita a nano and Nike+ but now Steve gave a company wide speech about iPods that run the full OSX, just like the iPhone. So….. how long do I wait for that to come out??? And will it require a different Nike+ for it???

So for the most part I wait. iDon’t Buy.

And I’m not sure I see that changing.

Oath of Office

I’m not a hockey fan of any sort. If Ottawa wasn’t in the playoffs I wouldn’t be giving it a second thought – beyond everyone at work talking about it.

But since Ottawa is, I made a promise that if they win the Stanley Cup I would buy a Sens Jersey. Not the el cheapo version either – a full blown official one.

Well, now that I’m watching game 5 of the series I feel confident that not only are the stars against Ottawa but black magic, voodoo and witchcraft are all involved. To these untrained eyes I see nothing that the Ducks are doing more then the Senators but somehow something always gets in the way of Ottawa pucks.

I was kinda looking forward to having a jersey. They look kinda comfortable.

But anyways, as the 3rd is about to start soon, I’m extending my promise. If the Ottawa Senators ever win the Stanley Cup – I will buy a jersey. (And not one with that damn cartoon face!)

Elbow Knee Grease

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

I am shocked and appalled that there is no elbow grease to be found anywhere!!!!

I’ve had a problem with my knees for a few years now. Ever time I stand up there’s a creaking/grinding sound like a old door opening. It’s a little unpleasant. So much that I only take the stairs going down at work.

And like all creaks, I was hoping to but a little elbow grease on it (I figured it was the same type of joint) to see if that helped. But now I’m not sure what to do about it. Some one suggested to me that it could be the tendons/ligaments being loose around the kneecap and that some exercise might help. Only it’s hard to exercise something when it hurts to begin with.

So I’m testing something out. I picked up two 3lb wrist/ankle weights on Saturday and I’m going to try wearing them around the house to see if the added weight helps any. The idea is that it’s very slight additional weight and that might get the ball(joint?) rolling. So to speak.

Steam Cleaning

Boiling water works. And over the last few days I’ve “put the kettle on” more times then you can shake a stick at. That’s pretty odd for me since I don’t drink coffee or tea.

The two anthills closest to the house are, if not eradicated, severally reduced. What ants remain I don’t think are a threat and I think I’ve taken care of the eggs for future ants.

The big one at the back is the problem, it’s quite large and I really couldn’t get enough water into my kettle to make effective strikes. I’d only be able to flood one small section at a time. I felt confident in it working because while I was waiting for another kettle to boil I’d study my enemy and saw that they were transferring larva from one part of the nest to another. From this I gathered that the nest isn’t that deep – so the boiling water was being a threat and reaching where it was suppose to. And then I’d bomb that part next. :)

Part of the problem is that the holes start to get filled in as it gets covered in water so you don’t know where one of the larger entrances are placed any more. I’d take a break for a day or two and let the ants rebuild a little bit so that I had definite targets to aim for.

I think I’ve turned the tide on the big one, and while waiting to see how the ants will respond, I turned my attention to the small anthill in the easement behind the back fence. I poured two kettle’s full of water down one of the holes and the water didn’t even pool up a little bit. It was like I was pouring it on snow – the sand just crumbed away and the water kept flowing down.

That’s a little disturbing.

I haven’t really given as much time to that hill in the back as I have wanted to, but I glanced at it today and nothing seems to have changed. If these are the same ants then I fear that if there egg nests are not too deep then the water is flowing straight down and past them. I might have to hit each and every one of the entrances just to make sure. My first strike does seem to have made some sort of impact tho, there is a fifth hill forming in the easement as well and it seems to have a trail of little holes leading from the forth. I’m guessing that they’re trying to expand in case something (me) happens to that nest.

Victory will be mine!
