But you wouldn’t believe me! Why wouldn’t you believe me?!?!

I finally saw Order of the Phoenix the other night. That book and the one after it, The Half-Blood Prince, are the two novels which don’t really stick in my mind so I was somewhat freer to just enjoy it. And I did, I liked the darker tone which everyone is talking about and I think they did the best they could with what they had to trim down to make it fit.

But I don’t really need to talk about that. What I do need to speak of is that when I came back from getting popcorn (which you must do when watching a movie, even if the price is stupid crazy) there was a rather heavy set man in the seat next to mine. No problem, I’m not exactly tiny, so I can’t really throw stones. And he didn’t bulge out of his seat too much.

Let’s get this out there. I’m a mouth-breather. Yeah, the “slack-jawed yocal” with the lobotomy eyes. I’ve always have trouble breathing through my nose, especially as a child, if I was ever gagged I would probably pass out (eventually). It’s better these days, but it’s a habit that’s hard to break and one I try to be conscious of.

Now, with that out of the way… my movie companion settled into the the film and must have been thoroughly engrossed… or mentally taxed… ’cause he seemed to nod off a little bit any time the action stopped.

This is where we ran into trouble. Because with every breath I thought I was watching Star Wars. I swear to God, Darth Vader has let himself go and is watching Harry Potter films. Breath In. Breath Out. Breath In. Breath Out. Once it started, it never stopped for the entire film.

Where’s magic when I really need it.

Get the hint.

There’s a young woman who gets the same bus as me in the morning. She’s fairly attractive and carries herself as someone who’s always been part of the “in” crowd. I wouldn’t say she was the Queen Bee but definitely in the Royal Court.

Well this morning I caught part of a conversation between her and this guy walking by. Turns out that the guy was kind of a friend. And it was painfully obvious that he’s sweet on her.

“So you want to do something this weekend?”
“Ah yeah, I’m heading to a cabin out of town.”

To her credit, under no circumstances could you possibly confuse her responses with something that might look like hope for the young man but she apparently has yet to tell him to crawl in a hole and die. Which, speaking as a fellow loser, I can appreciate. (We have to stick together.)

But the guy just wouldn’t stop! I caught a little story about how she was busy yesterday and not at her desk much…. which is why she didn’t get any of his calls.

“So I guess I called you a lot yesterday, huh?”
Oui.

I don’t know if you’ve ever read Archie comics, but the only proper way to render that “Oui” into text would require one of those speech balloons with the icicles hanging off of it. It was a warm, humid day and I think I saw frost form on the glass of the bus shelter.

But Mr. Cool is fairly dense. As the bus was pulling up he parted with:

“It sure was nice talking with you!”

*sigh*

Daft Punk’d

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

I stumbled across this blog post the other day that gives many of the sources for samples used in Daft Punk songs. It’s amazing some of the tracks that have been used. I mean, Barry Manilow?!!?!?

As they say on the page:

as you hear these tracks you’ll either decide Daft Punk isn’t as genius as you thought they were or that they’re twice as amazing.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s both. I was a little surprised at the length of some of the samples, I didn’t realize that most of the resulting song was taken so much from the source. But, of course, at the same time…. the result is more then the sum of it’s parts. Some of those original songs suck. The fact that Daft Punk could take parts of them and make something so great is amazing.

I’ve decided not to think about it and just play the songs. But it’s nice that they give back to Kanye West.

Last Night’s Fortune Cookie

Fortune truly helps those who are of good judgment.

The people who need fortune most are those without good judgment.

I finally saw the Transformers movie and it was like one of those moments… like man landing on the moon, JFK getting shot, etc… my entire childhood sang out in chorus as I watched it.

It has been a VERY long time since a movie has had that much of an effect on me. I was terrified that it was going to suck in all the ways that only Hollywood can. But Good Lord I was wrong! Even Optimus having lips didn’t bother me – at all!!!

It was easily the best Michael Bay movie I’ve seen. Granted, that doesn’t say much, but it’s very hopeful for the future. I’m already looking forward to the future and the sequel. There’s talk of a transforming aircraft carrier!

I still smile just thinking about it. :-)

Jackpot

Sunday, July 8th, 2007

I woke up on 07/07/07 with a dream. A dream where I had just won $20,000,000 dollars. And what I later determined to be a Ferrari Enzo. Plus, my dad was in the passenger seat as I was attempting to drive it around. (Very poorly might I add…)

How weird is that??

So, you know, just in case, I made sure to pickup lotto tickets just before the store closed… there wasn’t a $20 Million jackpot this week, but my tickets are for the next.

It’s likely I will pop a blood vessel in my brain attempting to will myself a winner, but here goes!
