Monotone for Mondochrome?

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

My photoblog has been MIA for a while now. I’ve been meaning to research different photoblog platforms and it all seems like so much trouble.

I don’t have much design skill to begin with and I loath all forms of HTML so I’m really dependent on what themes are available. WordPress photoblog themes that I’ve seen are either not updated to keep up with the newer tech added into the WordPress core or require plugins which aren’t guarrenteed to work with everything else. Plus WordPress usually needs to be tweaked to function right.

Too much trouble.

WordPress released a specific photoblog theme today. And so far I like the look of it. The biggest plus is that you know Automattic wouldn’t release it if it wasn’t ready.

Just a few questions are left. Do I want the same theme as just-about-every-photoblog will soon have? And, where the hell do you actually download it? Is this a WordPress.com exclusive?

Edit: Doh!  Available next week….

Oto-Wa concert

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Sweet! Anita got us tickets to Oto-Wa‘s concert at the Museum of Civilization!

I saw the 2004 15th anniversary concert and it was fantastic. I’ve also seen another concert at the Museum before and the unfortunate part is that the Grand Hallway where they hosted it was really wide.

It ended up really diffusing the sound and it didn’t hit you in the chest with the bass the same way. But I’m still looking forward to it.

Back in the 70′s already.

We’ve gone from -10 (or more) to nights where my thermometer is already reaching 78 (whatever the hell that actually is in C.) at night.

Where the hell did spring go? I think we skipped a season here.

I can’t sleep when it hits 79 on the main floor. (It’s generally then that upstairs.) There’s no way in hell I’m turning on the A/C yet.

This is just another reason we need a venting skylight! :-)

From the Shorpy blog I learned of their new store dedicated to the art posters of yesteryear.

I’ve already publicly drooled over the See America poster.

I really like it, but do i like it $30 worth?

Plus, would it be wrong to get the “See America” cropped off the bottom?

I looked into a dead girl’s eyes today.

Monday, April 7th, 2008

It was just a glimpse from across the road as my bus passed the crosswalk between the Rideau Centre and DND.  She was flat on her back against the curb with one of those extended buses still towering over her.  A firetruck was stopped and medics were examining her and I could hear a siren of an ambulance trying to get through traffic to reach her.

She looked young, Asian, possibly with blood on her face.  Maybe it was hair.  All I really noticed was her eyes, dark and glassy.

I don’t know for sure if she was dead, but her eyes had a vacant look to them.  Maybe she was just unconscious.

I hope so.

I stumbled across this set of portraits taken before and after death.  There’s something missing in all of them.
