The Disappearing Dog

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Didn’t get any closer tonight.  In fact, we saw a lot less of him.  He saw us and then dissappeared into the trees.

The catfood we left the night before was gone and a side was chewed out of the plastic tub it was in.  I’m assuming it was the dog.  We put a little more food in what was left and searched for a little while with no success.

We put more food just inside the trees where he had disappeared and left for a little while.  When we came back we saw him again and *poof* he was gone again into the trees.  After walking back and forth with no signs of him we decided to leave for the night.

And that’s when we saw him.  I swear, I think he’s starting to play with us.  He was just behind the trees where we left the second cache of food.  A good sign?

That was the last we saw him tonight.

Anita called the City today and the fact that he’s on a major road has bumped him onto a “Priority List”, but that doesn’t tell us how many cases they have before him.  I hope Animal Control has better luck getting him.

We’ll try again tomorrow. (Wish us luck!)

The Littlest Hobo

Aviation Parkway is a nearby road and it’s pretty busy with traffic.  Last week I noticed a dog out loose trying to cross the road when I went to pickup Anita.  On our way back we stopped and tried to get him to come to us but it was no use.  Couldn’t get within 20 feet of him before he’d run into the trees.

We looked for the next few days but only saw him the day after.  We figured that he had either moved on or found his way home.

Not so.

We saw him again tonight.  We don’t have a dog, but we do have cats.  So one of our last attempts to find him we brought some catfood to try and bribe him.  We still had them in the car (just in case) so we put theory into practice.

Anita could get a little closer this time but still not that close.  We left a little bit of the food and then went and got a little for ourselves.  When we came back what we had left was gone.

I’m anticipating this to be a good thing.  It might take a few days but if we keep feeding him maybe we can win him over enough to finally get him off that road.

I don’t really have a plan for after that, right now it’s the only brass ring I can think about.
