Before this, it has always been Lienux

I’m trying Linux again. Every so often my desire for a truly free OS boil to a froth and I try out the Linux of the day. Then after a week or so of trying to get the basics to work, I give up and go back to Windows.

In essence, I’m sick of Windows and what it costs. Both in purchasing licenses and in trying to keep everything working. And knowing, just knowing that if I did nothing but start it up everyday to play Solitaire without going online it would still eventually slow down and break.

I like the “It Just Works” of OS X, but do I really want to be locked into something again? Plus you can’t really run it without paying too much for (some very pretty) hardware.

I’m currently running Ubuntu 6.10 on a laptop, and for the most part I’m thrilled with how much better this works then other Linux variants I’ve tried in the past. There are some major problems, such as no tool other then iwconfig being able to get my wireless working, but it’s still so much better then any Linux I’ve ever tried.

Now I just need to find a blogging tool that equals BlogDesk. Ubuntu has Drivel, BloGTK (which won’t run unless I gksu into root) and the “Blog Entry Poster”.

And they all suck.

But I’ll see how I can make do. It’ll be quite a while before I’m willing to switch over completely, and by previous experience with how Linux devs like to design their apps, I may never, but I’m definitely intrigued.

I’m hoping Fiesty Fawn will start to be the Linux I’ve always wanted.
