Wii are anything but Fit

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

I scored a Wii Fit from HMV practically by accident the other day and I’m really enjoying it.  My favorite games are the balance games such as the soccer ball game and table tilt.  The Hula Hoop game is really fun as well, but there’s no way I’d do that in front of a audience!

The funny part is that one of the most interesting parts of Wii Fit is the jogging “game”.  I hate jogging.  I really, really, hate jogging.  And joggers, for that matter.  But exploring the island jogging tracks is something that’s kinda cool and at least it can be different between sessions.

I haven’t tried too much of the yoga or strength training routines ’cause I don’t think I have enough room to really get into them.  (Plus I just don’t wanna! Nyah!)

I don’t think Wii Fit is actually going to have any impact on my fitness (or lack of fitness) level, my BMI is currently around 28-29 (which is one away from obese) and that’s where it’s most likely to stay.  My Mii ends up looking like a round barrel which, while I’m not tiny by any means, doesn’t seem to reflect how I actually look.

But, at the very least, I’m off the couch when I’m playing!

Wii Rock Out (or at least try…)

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

I picked up Guitar Hero III for the Wii on a whim today. It was always something I had intended to get but it was always hard to find. I figured I wouldn’t even bother until the madness died down. But there it was for $88, so why not?

I am totally not a Guitar Hero.

It’s actually pathetic how bad I am. It’s still a lot of fun anyways but I find I can’t play for too long. There’s something about staring at the… um… fret board, looking for the next buttons to press that really messes with my eyes. On the results screen after a song sometimes it looks like the screen is rippling.

That’s not cool.

The same thing use to happen to me with Samba de Amigo. I’ll just have to take things slowly and settle for not being a Legend of Rock. Just like with a real guitar.

I’ll have to get Anita Samba when it comes out ’cause she loved it on the Dreamcast.

Wii are not impressed.

Well that didn’t take long.  Presto bit through the wire for the sensor bar on the Wii.  So now it’s a paperweight.

It’s a damn thin wire to begin with…  I’m hoping I’ll be able to splice it back together but I don’t think it’ll be pretty.

Yes Presto is alive and well……  For now….

Wii would like to play.

So Anita got me a Nintendo Wii for my birthday and it’s pretty much consumed my life since then.

WiiSports is incredibly deep.  It’s so simple yet you can always return to it for a game with friends.  My tennis score is currently over 2000 – the chart they display after each match only goes up to 1900.  I’m hoping to boost my score right off the screen. :)   This is the most I’ve ever enjoyed tennis.

The irony is WiiPlay is terrible.  If it didn’t come with a Wiimote it wouldn’t be worth buying.  The only mini game that I’ve been able to enjoy so far is the target practice.

I’ll have to get some real game for it but for right now I’ve borrowed Super Mario Galaxy off a friend and I’m playing a little bit each night.  It’s another solid game  from Miyamoto.

I’ll need to get a good picture of my Mii to put up here. :)
